"Taking you back to the 1940s with period stalls and military/classic vehicles on display!"
Local residents and visitors to the area should make a date in their diaries for the unmissable Bailgate shoppers and Lincoln 1940s Weekend, which is taking place on Saturday 11th and Sunday 12th August 2018. The focus this year is on the 100th Anniversary of the RAF, with multiple charities getting involved to help raise funds and awareness for the Royal Air Force and Armed Forces.
Lincoln BIG (Business Improvement Group) is encouraging businesses to get into the spirit of the occasion, by evoking the ambience of the 1940s .
Lincoln BIG Events & Promotions Manager Michael Armstrong said: “We are keen to create a fun and highly atmospheric weekend, which will offer something for the whole family.
“We are hoping that businesses, based in the area from The Strait to Newport Arch, will get involved, in all sorts of ways. That might mean hanging out the bunting, dressing shops and windows in a style reminiscent of the 1940s and stocking wartime-style products.
“Shop staff could decide to dress-up in 1940s clothes, get involved in a street party, decorate shops with memorabilia – such as old photographs – and even play nostalgic music from that period.
“Another idea would be to invite a veteran to join them for the day. Whatever they choose to do, we’d love to hear from them, and to publicise their plans.”
Lots of work is going on behind the scenes to ensure the May weekend is one that will live on in people’s memories.
“Ultimately, we hope shoppers and visitors will love taking a trip back in time. Attractions planned include period stalls, living history displays, re-enactments and the chance for people to see military and classic vehicles,” said Mr Armstrong.
